About The Honey B
I am the oldest of three girls. We grew up in the country in Minnesota where we were taught the value of hard work and the beauty of living amongst nature. My parents were organic out of necessity; not because it was trendy or a life style choice. We were not rich by any means, but we had enough and we had each other. We grew our own vegetables and helped my mother preserve them in the late summer. We raised chickens, pigs, turkeys, ducks, rabbits and a handful of other animals. We had countless dogs and cats that would follow us around while we pretended we were amazon women, prairie settlers or rock stars (so glad YouTube wasn't around then!). I grew up in a magical place free of chemicals and free from the cares of the world.
I now have three daughters and one son of my own and I decided to stop working as a high school science teacher in May of 2012 and stay home with them. I became very interested in saponification (that's the Fancy Nancy word for soap making). Little did I know that one small interest would take me into the world of soaping and body care products. With my third pregnancy I felt very strongly that I should live more like I did as a child; chemical free and organic. I am not fully an earth mama, but I would say I'm crunchier than most. I did use cloth diapers, breastfed in public and have a garden, but I squish spiders and eat sugar. ;)
Natural Soaps, Lotion Bars and More
I began The Honey B as a part time home bakery, but have transitioned to soap. Many soapers now days are selling "melt and pour" soaps, but I hand-make cold process soap in my home. I feel you are getting a more natural product with the cold process soaps that I make using natural ingredients and as many organics as I can get my hands on. I do not use artificial colors, so most of my soaps will contain herbs, spices, flowers, etc to distinguish the variety. I do use mineral pigments to color, but I use even these natural colorants sparingly. I list the "before" ingredients on my soaps so you can see what I put in the soap pot. An added bonus is you can actually pronounce the ingredients and you will know what they are. :)
I use only essential oils and am ever learning the benefits and healing properties of them. The plants that grow on our earth are the basis of most pharmaceutical drugs. I do feel modern drugs have their place, but it should not be in the things we put on our skin. I am a minimalist when it comes to ingredients. I recently read that 60% of what you put ON your skin ends up IN your body. Something worth thinking about when it comes to body care products.
If I wouldn't use it on my own children, I don't want you to use it on yours.
Please enjoy my natural, handcrafted soaps and body care products.
Be clean. Be natural.
