Questions
Can I request soaps for weddings, receptions, baby showers, etc?
Absolutely! Contact us at least 2 (preferably 3) months in advance for pricing and options.
My soap seems to have lost its scent
The scent of soaps made with essential oils will fade with time. This is natural and is an indication that you have purchased a truly natural product. We recommend you use your soaps within a timely manner. If you are using our soaps for drawer scenters, we suggest rotating the older soaps with a new one and using the older soap by the sink or shower. Water tends to help the soap's smell "bloom" again.
How "natural" are mineral pigments?
Mineral pigments include ultramarines, oxides and micas. They can be found in nature, but are expensive and contain toxins and heavy metals. The ultramarines, oxides and micas used in makeup, soaps, lip balms, etc are actually made in the lab; they are nature identical. They are the exact same thing as you would find in nature without the toxins and heavy metals. There are many substances in nature that are not good for us (ex. cocaine, marijuana, etc), but they are found in nature. Poison ivy is natural, but I wouldn't want to rub it on my face. The Honey B Soap Company does use ultramarines, oxides and micas and we feel confident about it because we use them in small quantities and we know they are free from naturally occurring heavy metals. We do offer soaps that are free from mineral pigments if it's an issue for you.
My shower and/or tub seem dirty
Our tub always seems dirty, but with four children, who love to "help" in the garden, this is normal. Our soaps do not contain surfactants like commercial soaps. A surfactant basically traps the dirt and soap particles together with water to be washed down the drain. They are naturally occurring and synthetic substances. These substances don't jive with our philosophy. We figure a little extra shower/ tub cleaning is worth it for not having these substances in our soaps.

My soap has orange spots on it
Don't worry, your soap is still fine to use. This is referred to DOS (Dreaded Orange Spot) in the soaping world. Basically, the oil in the soap is degrading. You can cut it off or leave it on and use the soap up.
Most homemade soap is "super fatted." We add extra oil and fat to make sure all the lye is used up during the chemical change (saponification). This makes for a moisturizing bar of soap and makes it safe (anyone ever get a lye burn? YIKES!). However, there is extra oil and it will degrade and happens to turns orange.
Solution: Use your soap. :) If you like nice smelling sock drawers, sachets are a nice alternative.
